Friday's Freek Peeks OH! J SIMPSON
Sweeney's Fearless Prediction
No lie I really did pick Utah to win so I'm 1-0. But here are the rest or most of the rest of my bowl season. I'm in a pool where I don't have to worry about spreads or rank the teams 1 through whatever with who is the most of a "lock". Here ya go....oh yeah winners in BOLD AND CAPS.
1. UTAH vs. Navy 2. FLORIDA ATLANTIC over Memphis...since when does Memphis play football? Oh yeah, since when does Florida Atlantic...I've seen Memphis play a few times, they're bad. Give me the mild upset. 3. CINCINNATI over Southern Miss....this won't be close...a "lock" if you will 4. NEW MEXICO over Nevada...who cares, really??? 5. BYU over UCLA....UCLA wanted Kragthorpe possibly, yes they're this bad. 6. BOISE STATE over East Carolina...this will be close but coming off last year's performance I'll ride once more with BS 7. PURDUE over Central Michigan....I'm probably wrong about this one. It all depends on if Purdue comes to play, which may or may not happen. 8. ARIZONA STATE over Texas...they better rip McCoy apart and I think ASU is still thinking about USC 9. HOUSTON over tcu....wasn't tcu supposed to be good, they should just end the season the way they started 10. BOSTON COLLEGE over Michigan State....this seems unfair, at one time BC had a chance for a national championship and a Heisman contender...msu has had none of that in years. 11. OREGON STATE over Maryland...I was really really going to go with Marlyand but then all the experts had OS as a lock so here I am...sorry renshaw 12. WAKE FOREST over UConn...after the "unfair catch" how could I go with the Huskies????? 13. MISSISSIPPI STATE over Central Florida...MS has played such better opponents that should carry them in the bowl game. 14. PENN STATE over Texas A&M...i hate both of them but AM is a huge disappointment even by my standards 15. ALABAMA over Colorado...saban wins and gets a little steam going into next season...but yeah a bad bowl game 16. AIR FORCE over California...it's too unfair that AF plays in the Armed Forces Bowl...Cal is a joke year in and year out, let another season for the people of the sun (the smart people of the sun) 17. FRESNO STATE over Georgia Tech...GT no coaching and no players 18. SOUTH FLORIDA over Oregon....a leaf is starting, enough said. 19. KENTUCKY over Florida State...half of FSU isn't playing and the other half sucks..KY 8-5 big deal (sarcasm) 20. AUBURN over Clemson...no idea why...i think clemson could really win, we'll see 21. INDIANA over Oklahoma State....yeah OS will probably win but I'm holding on to the Hoosiers this holiday season..win one for hep!!!! 22. TENNESSEE over Wisconsin....donovan is below average at QB in my opinion, UT is faster and this is coming from a guy who hates UT maybe more than KY fans. 23. MISSOURI over Arkansas....ARK no coach no win...their players are looking to the draft..Daniels goes nuts 24. VIRGINIA over Texas Tech...can TT be slowed down on offense? 25. FLORIDA over Michigan....are you serious? 26. USC over Illinois....nice run zooksters but you don't belong here, have fun before and after the game though, enjoy the week 27. GEORGIA over Hawaii....has Hawaii played a top 50 D yet? 28. OKLAHOMA over west virginia...no coach, no win, that's my philosophy 29. KANSAS over Virginia Tech...no they don't belong but who doesn't want a very obese coach to win a HUGE GAME (no pun intended) 30. RUTGERS over Ball State....worst bowl game of the season possibly 31. TULSA over Bowling Green....Kragthorpe didn't leave the cupboard bear, thank god we saw what he could do with a full cupboard 32. LSU over Ohio State...osu doesn't get killed because Flynn sucks. 31-21 lsu

I'll post at times tonight from here at press row at Freedom Hall about the game and the atmosphere.
FIRST HALF
- STARTING LINEUP: Sosa, Smith, Williams, Clark, Farley
- Definitely a more comfortable lineup for me as a fan.
- It should be noted, during the lineup introductions, the Cardinals were much more subdued, offering up nothing more than a quick wave to the crowd when their name was announced. They then quickly turned arund to be back in their huddle. Interesting.
- Two quick fouls on Jerry Smith early. Pitino sends in Preston Knowles off the bench! Nice.
- Sosa with a nice pass in transition to a cutting Terrence Farley for a slam.
- Knowles with a quick two off the bench. [10-10 tie with 15:57]
- Media timeout at 15:29. Marshall shooting 50% FG, Louisville 33%.
- Sosa and Farley convert the pick and roll to perfection for another easy two for Farley.
- Caracter comes in at 14:35 mark of first half. Mostly cheers from the crowd. Some boos.
- Caracter has some heavy tape on his right wrist and thumb.
- Marshall is getting some open looks at threes here early, and making them. Timeout Louisville. [MAR 18-15 with 13:17]
- Veteran official Eddie Hightower took a serious dive right here in front of our seats. He didn't make it down to the other end of the floor, but looks okay now.
- The Herd still hot early. Another three ball to go out 21-15 with 12:14.
- MEDIA TIMEOUT at 11:51. Marhsall leads 21-16. The Herd shooting 43% from the field including a perfect 5-5 from 3-land. Louisville is shooting 40% including 2-6 from 3.
- Out of timeout, Marshall pulls out the 2-3 zone. Cards were patient and got an open 3-look from McGee, which he made.
- Marshall countered with another three of their own... 6-of-6. Marhsall leads 24-19 with 10:59.
- Jerry Smith returns for the Cards with two fouls, and UL goes to the 2-3 zone.
- Marshall hits ANOTHER THREE! 7-of-7.
- 8:44... Marshall leads 27-26. UL playing good, Marshall is just hitting EVERYTHING.
- A Will Scott three gives Louisville their first lead since 2-0 at 29-27 with 8:15 to go.
- MEDIA TIMEOUT at 7:52. UL is on a 14-6 run, and they lead 29-27.
- Edgar Sosa is starting to try a little too hard... two straight misses, and then a frustration foul. In comes McGee. [UL leads 32-31 with 4:30]
- Derrick Caracter has very much been a delight so far. Forget what he's done on the court. He's run to the bench (sprinted) when he got subbed in for. He's standing and giving teammates fives when they come out of the game. Very good to see. KEEP IT UP DC!
- MEDIA TIMEOUT at 3:11. Louisville leads 34-31. Marshall is shooting 45% from the field. Louisville is shooting 44%.
- Preston Knowles with a big block and an offensive rebound in the last 30 seconds. He's playing spirited ball. roviding a spark.
- DC misses two free throws to end the half. We're tied at halftime 37-37.
- MY FIRST HALF ANALYSIS: I can't complain too much with the way Louisville is playing. They're playing tough. Some shots are falling, some aren't. Defense has been pretty good. Marshall is just hitting tough shots.
SECOND HALF
- UL starts the second half drawing a foul. Farley misses both. One big downfall tonight. Cards are now 5-of-12 from FT line.
- Markel Humphrey is as advertised for Marshall. He scores again to make it 39-39.
- Everytime UL gets the lead, Marshall answers. Morris 3 makes it 44-all.
- Clark is turning it up in the second half. He's got seven points in the first 3 minutes of the second half. (15 total)
- MEDIA TIMEOUT at 15:30. UL leads 48-46.
- Here come the Cards. Nice steal in the backcourt by Jerry Smith... he puts it in. UL on a 8-0 run to go up 54-46. TIMEOUT MARSHALL with 13:51.
- DC gets a bucket. Nice pass by E5. 10-0 run for UL. 56-46.
- THIS FULL COURT PRESS IS STARTING TO GET SICK GOOD. UL has forced two turnovers and a timeout from Marshall. Cards are on a 17-3 run now and lead 63-49 with 11:58 to go.
- MEDIA TIMEOUT FOLLOWS! This is definitely a Cards team I haven't seen a whole lot of this year, and I like it.
- McGee gets into the act. Great pass from T-Will for a three by Andre. 66-49.
- Terrance Farley goes down hard, but looks to be okay. Trainers come out and get him. Slight limp as he jogs to bench. Great applause for the senior.
- Farley isack in 30 seconds later. UL leads 66-55.
- Scoop shot up and in by Matt Walls. An 8-0 run for Marshall. Lead has been cut to 66-57. TIMEOUT LOUISVILLE. Pitino with some encouraging clapping as team heads to bench for timeout.
- MEDIA TIMEOUT at 6:41. UL leads 69-59.
- The guys are getting it to Caracter underneath. He's getting plenty of touches tonight. Including the last one, which added up to another two of his 14. UL leads 73-61.
- Caracter with an offensive rebound and bucket. He's got 16, and the Cards lead by 12 again.
- MEDIA TIMEOUT with 3:59. UL leads 77-63. Clark has 23 for the Cards. That matches the game high with Marshall's Markel Humphrey. Caracter has 18 now.
- Terrance Farley came in and gave a good two minutes. A couple offensive boards and a bucket. Caracter returns with 2:40 remaining. UL leads 79-65.
- Caracter promptly comes in and picks up his fourth foul. He finishes with 18, and a good appluase as fans head for the exits.
- On an night, where Terrence Williams was just 1-of-7 from the field and finished with four points, it didn't matter. Great game for the Cards.
- FINAL SCORE: LOUISVILLE 85, MARSHALL 75.

CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALL
Let Me Tear Ya... (For those of you who are having trouble this morning...it's tear...like to tear a piece of paper in half...no to be confused with tear...like i'm shedding tears).
How could we start without going right to the Mitchell Report. As I wrote on the front page of our website, does this report really matter? I think the best way to break down this topis just list questions/concerns that I initially have with the Mitchell Report. - How does this change the record book? Do we keep all records? Do we get the records intact? Or maybe do we just leave them alone and kinda act like this never happened? The problem is that there's no GOOD or RIGHT answer when dealing with this. For one, we have no idea and may never know ALL the names who have EVER used. We need to find them right? I'm sure names will filter in throughout the years but that WILL NOT be good enough to make records vanish. Also, if we do touch the records how do we go about doing this. Get rid of Barry Bonds' home run record. What if he only used steroids in 3 or 4 years but NOTHING previous? It's too hard to discertain. Also, what about McGwire/Sosa? We know they used but they also SAVED baseball after the strike! Did we build them up and want them to burn at the stake? What about the Hall of Fame? Do they deserve? It affected McGwire, should it affect sure HOFers such as Bonds, Pettite, possibly Tejada? If we only have 80 names and there's really 400 more out there should we just wait or take action NOW? Like I said, there's no good answer. - The Selig Factor: I think we all have a problem putting any belief in Bud Selig and not becaue he looks like a gremlin. What will he actually do? He knew about this problem his entire time as commish. And who is he going to punish? There has to be some sort of guideline. Can he really go case by case like he said yesterday? I doubt it. Say he punishes Bonds (the nemesis) but does NOTHING to Clemens (the prodigal son). There's so much gray area here. I'm afraid Selig will punish certain players and not others. He has butchered and destroyed a sport that used to be called America's Past Time...why not just kill it all the way Bud? What do you think? Erase the records...or keep 'em? Side with Bud Selig or trash him? Does this all really mean anything coming from only 2 sources?!?!?!?! Comment...

1)Bobby Petrino has no class with his sneak out in the middle of the night departure from the Falcolns. However, he does have the right to leave. If he went 3-13 and 4-12 in two years they would have no problem firing him. Professional sports is a business first and foremost and unfortunately I have found out first hand that there is no such thing as loyalty in the big business that is sports.
2) Right now basketball in the bluegrass state looks to be very disappointing with the bad losses(Garden Ridge, IU blowout, Dayton), rash of injuries(Padgett, Palacios, Jasper, and Meeks), and the off-court issues(Carracter suspension, Legion drama). It's a long season however, so Cat & Card fans keep the faith.(At Least until March)
3) I am a huge baseball fan and I am totally pissed about the Mitchell Report findings. I don't know how a baseball fan can look at any MLB player without wondering if he is on steroid's or HGH. Or if baseball will do anything about it if he is. For those of you who think that it's no big deal that all these players took steroids, it's against the law to buy or sell steroids in this country.
4) Don't we all hope that Coach Rick Pitino and Tywanna Patterson are right and Earl Clark and Patrick Patterson Comeback next year.(Wishful thinking)
5) Can anybody stop the perfect machine that is the New England Patriots?(I don't think so)
6) January 8, 2008 Headline: Les Miles signs on as Carr's replacement for the Michigan Wolverines. Bobby Petrino replaces Miles at LSU.
7) Loyal callers Hinke, Me, & Carolina Steve make me relish every minute of my job with 1570. I love their passion.(However twisted it might be)

Let Me Tear Ya... By Andy Sweeney 1. Ah, it's one day after the ripping and shredding on national tv of Bobby Petrino. I'm thinking the Falcons players shouldn't be asking why Petrino quit on THEM but rather why they quit on HIM. What other coach really wanted to give Chris Redman, Joey Harrington, and Byron Leftwich a chance to START again in the NFL. As far as I'm concerned Harrington and Leftwich have either played themselves out of the league or need to hold a clip board like Redman has throughout his career. Sorry Chris I like you and root for you but let's face the truth for a second. What other coach has had to put up with the circus of Michael Vick? I'm sorry Mr. Petrino your all-star QB and the face of a franchise and at one time the league is going to jail for about 2 years for DOG FIGHTING. Not many other coaches had to put up with an anemic running game with an over rated Jerious Norwood and should be back up old man Warrick Dunn. Do I even need to remind you of the WR position..watch the DROP reel for my opinion on that. But let's look back at the question: Does Petrino deserve all the heat he's taken in the last 40 or so hours? The easy answer is YES. He's a lying, coniving (spelling on that one?), dealing under the table, two-faced, no remorse, no boundaries, no class, son of a _____(fill in your own adverb) but he's STILL after all that considered a good coach. And we all know good coaches will ALWAYS find a place with SOME team...it's just the way it is. I'm still interested how long he stays at Arkansas and where that next stop will be. Plus, isn't it kinda odd that EVERY player has come out with the same statement: Petrino was a cancer and we didn't like him from the start and never wanted to play for him. Weird. To watch Arthur Blank saying he was "betrayed" click here and then on the VIDEO link. 2. Aside from Petrino, today marks a possible historic moment for Major League Baseball...if you still care. The long-awaited Mitchell report hits news stands with a press conference at 2pm today. MLB and Selig will have their own around 4 or 4:30. If you haven't heard lots and lots of MLB players past and present did steroids or growth hormones of some kind. So the report is supposed to list 80 names of so linked with this report. Initially all we know ( go to espn.com or click here for the article) is that it's the PLAYERS and OWNERS fault for the spreading of steroid use in baseball.... Wait a minute...didn't we already know this? What the hell does that mean? Of course it's the PLAYERS and OWNERS fault. Who else would be at fault? The players are the ones that took the steroids, distributed the steroids freely to other players who may not have been using, but more importantly said NOTHING when they KNEW something WRONG was going on. So why did we need to spend multi-millions of dollars to tell us this great breaking news? So here's what I want...Feel free to throw some names around YOU think MAY or ARE on "the List". They are supposedly "very very very very very high level names". Who are some very high level names you may ask. Well how about this list that first comes to mind: David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, anyone on the Yanks including Roger Clemens and A-Rod, Miguel Tejada, Sammy Sosa, Adam Dunn, Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Johan Santana (hey let's throw some pitcher names in), or Derreck Lee. Those are some big names who, well you never know, could have used at some point. Whoever is involved let me leave you with a few questions. First, does anyone still care? We all know baseball have been using for years and we all are GUILTY of "diggin the long ball". Second, how does this change baseball? Does this just mean we put an * next to all these names or the era as a whole? And if we do how does that effect the record book? The Mitchell Report will surely not help baseball but just continue to confuse, hurt, and damange the reputation of a dying past time. And finally, will we still honor these sports IDOLS? If a guy like Jeter or A-Rod is caught using will posters and pictures still be hung on 8 year olds bedroom walls? Will we look at these guys as traitors or simply ball players who made a mistake by trying to "get an edge" and entertain YOU? There are so many questions that will need to be answered I can't even think right now. Oh yeah, WHAT IF BARRY BONDS ISN'T ON THE LIST? And what if some all ready HOF are on the list? Anyways, discuss....

The Heartfelt Petrino Goodbye Letter
 "Atlanta Falcons players;
Out of my respect for you, I am letting you know, with a heavy heart, I resigned today as the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons. This decision was not easy but was made in the best interest of me and my family. While my desire would have been to finish out what has been a difficult season for us all, circumstances did not allow me to do so. I appreciate your hard work and wish the best. Sincerely, Bobby Petrino"
Also, here is the link from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution of Bobby Petrino calling in the pigs. Enjoy!
Let Me Tear Ya... By Andy Sweeney 1. Who else put Petrino would be number one. I really have a hard time understanding, believing, or being surprised when Petrino moves. I think everyone knew it was inevitable he would leave Atlanta. Watching them Monday night you see they are a really bad team...really bad. But there's always a few things that come to mind when thinking of Petrino. First, Petrino is of this breed (like Les Miles) that any job they have will NEVER be good enough. Will any job ever be good enough for him? Head coaching wise Louisville and Atlanta haven't. Atlanta was an NFL job that blew up in his face but Louisville was a job where he was worshipped and what Lville fan wouldn't have wanted Petrino leading Brohm and company this year over Kraggie? But both we NEVER good enough. Second, let's start taking bets where he will go next. I think we'd have to be nieve to think Petrino has made his last coaching move. In 2-4 years quite a few jobs will come open and he'll be lured away. Think about this...Miami, Louisville, Michigan (again..it's hard to follow a legend), LSU, Bama...lots of jobs WILL or COULD be open. What has Petrino done to become such a hot commodity? He coached some in the pros then went to Lville and did good but not great. One Orange Bowl win against an ACC Wake Forrest doesn't grant one immunity. His failure in Atlanta may follow him, it may not. One thing is for sure...Petrino is not done. And you know what really sucks??? Think if Petrino wouldv'e stuck it out in Louisville one more year...what a dream. Things would've been much different...6-6 NO WAY....Losing to Syracuse NO WAY...piss pour defense...NO WAY.....no swagger on the field....NO WAY. What it could've been. All for Petrino to go to Atlanta and suffer for not even an entire season and failure numerous times on the national stage. Petrino will NEVER be happy. Arkansas is certainly just a pit stop to better and greener pastures. We know he has no TRUE allegiance to your school or program. What's weird is he takes over an Arkansas team with no McFadden and probably no Jones...what's he left with? Probably another job. (By the way DeAngelo Hall is tearing and shredding Petrino and I think he's right...completely right..he was very wary of Petrino from the beginning. I guess one douche bag understands its own kind. And they're replaying the FRIED CHICKEN comment which ESPN has now made completely racist...so good job ESPN.) Last thoughts: How is Petrino going to recruit or gain any sort of backing from a new coaching staff? Who would really believe he will stay more than a few years. Also, I know people will be asking why he didn't go to Michigan? Easy..they didn't offer. So Petrino I hope you have fun in Arkansas. Have fun walking in kids' homes where you know you have NO allegiance to them. And a warning to parents: IF you have a kid that is good enough to go to Arkansas but will need to stay 3 or 4 years then get ready to endure a coaching change. You know what is really trippy...that really no players, administartion, or fans LIKE Petrino after he leaves. We all hate him. He leaves places by walking in saying bye...sounds like the Baltimore Colts to me. What a legacy he's leaving.
2. As the coaching carousel moves we take a look at Les Miles. I was watching the SportsCenter special on his "courtship" from Michigan...."courtship" what an old person's word. Anyways, I am continually shocked to see Miles in press conferences allude to Michigan. "I'd like to everything I can to help Michigan with their search for a new coach..I'm a Michigan man." What the hell does that mean? Imagine if Rich Brooks would've aided Louisville in a search this summer...probably wouldn't happen. Why would Miles care? He says he "roots for Michigan". Why does LSU want to even keep Miles? Who roots for one major program while coaching another. If the two play who does he root for? I'll let you guess how many players that played this year were recruited by Miles? That's right 1. Miles has done nothing but back his way into a national championship this season but let's face it with the squad they had last year... at least 4 first rounders...they didn't even sniff the nat'l championship. Miles needs to decide to stay (which supposedly that contract did but we know better) at LSU and SHUT UP about Michigan or he just needs to leave. Think about this....maybe Michigan keeps bringing this stuff up to distract LSU? Just a thought. LSU made some nice comments how LSU is a better job with more money...which is actually true but a shot to the groin for Michigan fans and administration. One thing we know for sure...LSU better kill Ohio State...I got 100 on it. AS

Let Me Tear Ya...
Last night we saw another phenomenal racist moment on Monday Night Football, my NBA fantasy team soar, and Michael Vick gets an a$$ pounding 23 months in jail. 1. MNF- How embarassing has this spectactle become? No wonder they moved it to national tv only. They were embarassed the remaining public who still uses "bunny ears" would have to see it. Here is a link that will show you all the MNF games we've been subjected to this season and will be the rest of the year. As for the game who really cares I was watching hockey. But from what I saw Redman looked good. Must be a fun choice to choose from Redman, Leftwich, and Harrington. The funny thing is that Redman's started a lot less, makes a lot less, but is a lot better than the previous 2 who were taken so high in the draft. 2. Aside from the game we had a RACIST MOMENT! Sometime I think in the 2nd quarter Tiricio and company (which is bad enough already) had their "in booth" interview. Previous classics have included rude remarks from Jimmy Kimmel. Anyways, Blank who has lots invested, or I guess used to have lots invested in Vick was pretty candid. He was disappointed and looked hurt and then Tiricio and Kornheiser wanted to know what will be made of Vick's return. So like any billionaire owner would do he smirked, kinda giggled, and remarked how Vick would be back in the NLF probably if he laid off the FRIED CHICKEN (and fries). And I like the way he tried to cover up his fried chicken remark with the use of french fries...what the hell, haha. We haven't had a good food racist humor bit since maybe Fuzzy...not sure. Anyways, me and my buddies of course caught it immediately and had a good laugh. As if the Falcons job isn't already a bad enough PR job what about now? So now we have a QB in jail, no good back up, no fans, no wins, over rated coach, and an owner dropping the FRIED CHICKEN remark on MNF. I wonder how many people watched the game? Wow. And doesn't Arthur Blank look like the old man who hanged himself in Shawshank Redemption? Just a little maybe. 3. The game was pretty much drapped and drenched in MV7. Or in "Memory of Michael Vick". How does this guy get a pass according to some people? I don't care about race, religion, or football team you fancy. He does something highly illegal for 7 plus years with the money he made in the NFL. He does this illegal thing over many state lines making it a federal offense. He then lies to everybody, including staring at his boss and friend and lying. He then fails a drug test after he is told to BE GOOD. After all this he really shows no contrition and gets what he deserves. My prediction if it means anything is that he serves 19 or 20 months of the sentence. He's already served a little over a month right now. The funny thing will be when he goes to court in his "orange jumper". I hope he rots in jail and we don't have to see his over rated ass on the field anymore. He shouldn't get a pass and I hope he doesn't...well I guess now he hasn't. And YES that is Vick holding a huge bag of weed. More tomorrow tools. --Andy Sweeney

When college hoops gives me the blues, a lil wooderson get me through. I love the hand shake reminds me of the good ole days.
Let Me Tear Ya It was an extremely busy weekend with lots of basketball, the Heisman was handed out, and my Giants took the field against the Eagles...at least that one worked out for me. Here's what I have to say about the weekend that was in sports---Andy Sweeney.
1. Louisville kicked off my weekend with a phenomenol looking 70-65 loss and the 3rd straight loss to the Dayton Flyers..yes the Dayton Flyers. In UL pregame at Tailgaters I mentioned how UL would trail most of the game but inside 5 minutes to go would come back get a small lead and then hit some timely free throws for the win. It kinda went the exact opposite. Either way Pintino called it a "horrible week" in practice and I guess that translated to the game. Anyways, I think I can still hear Brian Roberts stroking 3's in Freddom Hall. Seriously, how bad was Sosa on Saturday. He did nothing that made the team better. He was 3-8 with 9 points from the field and was constantly only lurking around the 3 point line. Also, guess how many dimes he offered up? ZERO! Next is Purdue. How can UL win this game? And do you all think they are still even Elite 8 worthy? They look like a team that is lost, gets nothing from the back court, accepts T-Will's erratic play, and is relying on a guy like Earl Clark (15,12) to carry them. Also, I watched the game with one of those extremely annoying guys. You know the kind that actually does call Terrence Williams T WILL or DC or E-5. Annoying as hell....much like the game.
2. UK Lost to IU also sports fans. This win showed me 2 things. First, Indiana with a healthy Bassett and EJ could reach the Final Four. Second, UK now at 4-3 with games against Houston, UAB, and Lville coming up may NOT make the tourney..in fact right now even though the SEC sucks they will not make it. I cannot see them beating Lville, UAB, Houston, Miss St, Tenn...keep 'em coming. At this point UK looks anemic and not worth watching. Joe Crawford has a big 10 points against his freshmen brother who rattled off 20 points....pretty much puts Joe's career in perspective. What's always funny to me is the Crawford mom and dad wearing half IU/UK and they're sitting right behind the IU bench...come on! But the game was a joke. UK is a joke. They are a really bad team. They have one good player. Crawford (Joe) and Bradley are so disappointing and it's always fitting that their senior year is a microcosm (spelling??) of their entire UK career. IU looks pretty good and played pretty hot with no starting PG or SG. So the entire back court is gone and they run UK out of the building within the first 5 or 6 minutes. How embarassing is UK but for UK fans...do you keep Gillispie WHEN they MISS the tourney...because they will. Oh yeah, one more thing....JORDAN IS BETTER, JORDAN IS BETTER!!!!!
3. If you were under a rock or too drunk to turn the dial (me) you may have noticed Florida's Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy. Even though it's a joke Tebow had 51 touchdowns and became the first QB to go 20/20. What's weird about Tebow and Florida now is that I used to hate this team. I always rooted for FSU or Miami and I hated Spurrier and Florida. Now, I like Spurrier even though he's losing and I don't mind Florida who is a powerhouse AGAIN. But seriously, Tebow looks like a complete smug douche bag. His hair nicely gelled, the hot girlfriend with enormous breasts it all goes back to why I hate Tebow. But he did win the Heisman. Let me throw this that way. What if, and he probably will, but what if Tebow stays all 4 years? He's already won a Heisman and one National Championship in 2 years...he'll probably win another bowl this year. So in the next 2 years what is to stop Tebow from winning at least 1 more Heisman and 1 more nat'l champ? NOTHING. I'm predicting he wins one of each and has the best or one of the most lucrative ncaa careers ever....I don't see it any other way. They'll still be dominating UK for the next 2 years. More tomorrow.....--Andy Sweeney

Saturday is here, and it's that special Saturday in college basketball. You know, the one where there is no college football to worry about... the one where CBS starts broadcasting college hoops. The one where all the good games start showing up all on the same day. That's today... and I AM PUMPED.
A couple of musings from me to get you pumped on a Saturday.
- Louisville basketball hoopster (and the guy who will be the best pro... yeah, you heard me) Earl Clark has a blog to keep up with fifth-graders at a grade school in New Jersey. Pretty cool.
- There are NFL teams that are looking to clinch playoff spots (or their divisions) this weekend. It's amazing to think that we're already at that point in the NFL season, but here is a link to the playoff scenarios that can be clinched in Week 14 in the NFL.
- Well, thanks a lot Reggie Bush. Not only did you bomb for me in fantasy this year, just like my first-round fantasy blunders from years past (a.k.a. Daunte Culpepper in '05, Cadillac Williams in '06), but now you've torn a knee ligament, and are probably done for the year, in a week where I HAVE to have a win to get into the playoffs. Here's hoping Samkon Gado somehow gets a TD for the Dolphins... jeez, I'm screwed. Oh, but in other news, SO ARE YOU, so I guess we're even.
- And by the way, how come no one else is talking about this (I didn't either, so I'm to blame too)? A Louisville basketball coach may or may not be suspended. This will be interesting to watch unfold. - MY IU-UK PREDICTION: First off, here's a quick preview of the game on ESPN.com. It ought to be a good game. I think IU is much more talented, but I see Indiana making it tough on themselves in some regard. That, and Eric Gordon won't be 100%. That's big. Patrick Patterson and DJ White will each lead there team in scoring. But in the end, UK is inexperienced, and this is their first time away from Rupp this year, and they just happen to travel to a place where Kelvin Sampson hasn't lost--Assembly Hall. Oh, and Sampson and Gillispie met four times in Big 12 play at each coach's former respective programs... Sampson won all four.
Make it five, but it'll be a good one... INDIANA 78, KENTUCKY 75
- Just a little something for you from the past, to celebrate a college hoops season that is now in full bloom. Check this out, and notice how the announcers mention the National Anthem as a way to cool off the crazy people. Wow, how times have changed.
ENJOY YOUR SATURDAY!

Let Me Tear Ya The people I associate myself are some of the oddest thinking, out of control, sarcastic, douche bags in the city. No joke, seriously. Anyways, when one of us does something somewhat intelligent or says something witty "it tears us" or it's funny to us. I'll take that a step further and explain daily which sports topics, people, cheerleaders, etc "tear me". Let it begin on this gloomy Friday (hey at least I still don't live in Buffalo) December 7, the year of our Lord 2007 (and no I wasn't making fun of Legion's prophetess mother). So here we go...
1. Alex Legion - Well I mentioned him so he may as be number one. Seriously, how much of a douche bag is this guy? And does anyone really believe in a religion that involves handling snakes, healing, and believing in a "prophetess". Think of this...she picked UK to go to the Final 4. I say dumb things nearly every minute of the day but this takes the cake. Besides your out of touch UK fans, which beings a whole new debate, who really thought even with the coaching change UK had any chance to even sniff a Final 4. They'll be watching it with the rest of us on TV or better yet the whole Tourney itself...yeah I don't see a way barring a miracle they make the field of 65. As far as Legion, just come back to practice and take the marathon you will have to run in stride. If I were Coach G (that's my name for him I guess) I would run his ass off big time then make him shower with Perry Stevenson and Coury the Flurry. Just a thought. Let's continue...
2. Why does ESPN have a huge picture of Barry Bonds on their front page? Isn't there great basektball games this weekend, coaching changes all over the country, NBA news, or a huge NFC game that just ended?!?! I would easily make a wager that a toilet seat can't fit around Bonds' head. Does anyone really care about Bonds? Well, or baseball for that matter? Think of a more irrelevant major sport in America..don't you dare say hockey...it's not a major sport anymore. Too bad, I love it. But anyways, Bonds is an ass. I like him for some reason but he is. Just get out of the news. I wish someone would just put him away. We know someone will pick him up, it's just a matter as of who. I don't really care who just please do it...and quickly! (I wonder how much he pays the guy to rub him down with his "special cream"). Let's continue...
 3. I know that nobody in the Lville area cares about the NBA but seriously...what's with this Jason Kidd story? It's annoying as hell. Who cares if he has headaches? I mean would you really want to play in New Jersey too? We all know Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter aren't going to win a championship, especially now with the Celtics. The only reason I like Kidd is that he looks like a white militant..like a skin head or Edward Norton in American History X. Let's continue....
4. You know who looks like a troll? Greg Schiano! Seriously, have you seen his ears or his huge jaw that give him the troll-like appearance? But I guess he's a good coach. He did turn Rutgers around. Be honest how many of you heard of Rutgers before, let's say, 2 years ago? NONE! He pretty much dissed Miami to go to Michigan...I would take Miami much hotter ladies than Michigan. But Schiano is a pale troll.
 5. The Wake Up Zone with Gidel and Ragone talked about who is the "lustier" male athlete...Tom Brady or Tony Romo? Give me Brady guys! Admit it his throw away you know what tops anything a regular guy can pull! Brady has that look of an incredible douche bag but he has everything. He's visiting the White House (which would be torture to the normal American), banging super models, having kids out of wed lock and not caring, and wins Super Bowls. Romo's fake relationship with Underwood or whatever her name is doesn't seal it for me. She is incredibly hot but Romo he seems like a guy you wouldn't wanna hang out with. A night on the town for him would be Starbucks, maybe a movie, maybe a board game...something fun. It seems to me that a night with Brady would be lots of liquor drinking and then scouting out chicks to take home and kick out the next morning. Just a thought. Give me Brady at any time. What guy in his right mind wouldn't be Brady for just one day? Out intern Cesaire says his throw-away "poon" is better than what we can get. Until tomorrow... later tools.---Andy Sweeney

Davey O'Brien Award
Tim Tebow of Florida won the Davey O'Brien Award on Thursday night as the nation's top quarterback, beating out Oregon's Dennis Dixon and Missouri's Chase Daniel. Tebow is the nation's second-leading passer, having completed 68 percent of his throws for 3,132 yards, with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. Troy Smith of Ohio State won the O'Brien Award the past season. He is the second sophomore quarterback to win the award.

Doak Walker Award
Darren McFadden of Arkansas won his second straight Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back. A Heisman Trophy finalist and 2007 recipient of the Walter Camp Award, McFadden beat out Michigan's Mike Hart and Rutgers' Ray Rice. The 6-foot-2 McFadden set Arkansas single-season records this year with 1,725 rushing yards and 2,172 all-purpose yards, breaking the records he set last year. He scored 16 touchdowns and had nine 100-yard rushing games, including a 321-yard effort in a win over South Carolina Nov. 3 that tied an SEC record.
Fred Biletnikoff Award
Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation's best receiver. Crabtree, the NCAA's leader in total receptions with 125, beat out Mario Manningham of Michigan and Jordy Nelson of Kansas State. Crabtree led the nation with 1,861 yards and 21 touchdowns and shattered the NCAA freshman record of 14 receiving TDs held by three players. He became last week the first freshman since Herschel Walker in 1980 to be named to the American Football Coaches Association All-American team. Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech won the award last season.
Outland Trophy
LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey won the Outland Trophy as the nation's top lineman to become the first-ever Tigers player to win the prestigious award. The other finalists were Kansas lineman Anthony Collins and Michigan offensive lineman Jake Long. Despite playing the last five games of the season with a sore right knee, Dorsey finished with 64 tackles, six sacks and 11½ tackles behind the line. Dorsey said his knee will be healthy when LSU (11-2) plays Ohio State (11-1) in the Bowl Championship Series title game on Jan. 7.
Jim Thorpe Award
Arizona cornerback Antoine Cason won the Thorpe Award as the best defensive back in the country. Cason beat out Boston College safety Jamie Silva and LSU safety Craig Steltz to become the first Wildcats player to win the award since 1990. Cason leads Arizona with four interceptions this season, and he holds the school record with 307 return yards on his 14 career interceptions. Texas' Aaron Ross won the award last season.
Lou Groza Award
Arizona State's Thomas Weber won the Groza Award as the country's best kicker, beating out Jose Martinez of UTEP and Austin Starr of Indiana. Weber is the first kicker from Arizona State to win the award. Louisville's Art Carmody won the Groza Award last season.
Ray Guy Award
Georgia Tech's Durant Brooks won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter. The other finalists were Kevin Huber of Cincinnati and Brett Kern of Toledo. Baylor's Daniel Sepulveda won the award last season.

It's amazing how good Jason Campbell can look sometimes and how bad he can look on others .. Chicago needs to stop drafting tight ends and go after a wide receiver. Greg Olson's catch a game hasn't been worth a first round pick. Especially when you consider they probably could have traded up and gotten Dwayne Bowe .. Sexy Rexy still stinks and I don't know why. He's hurt and out of the game .. I think Adrian Peterson of the Bears should have to be required to wear another initial on his jersey so we don't confuse him with the real Adrian Peterson. In fact, why not just go ahead and start referring to him as AD Peterson. He is killing the name.
--Dave Ragone Guarantees Anthony Smith yes the one and only Anthony Smith guarantees a victory of the New England Patriots. Why do teams keep fueling the fire of the best team ever assembled? It's hard enough to motivate a bunch of millionaires but Anythony Smith made it easy for the mad scientiist Bill Belichick to get his players ready to go. Click here for the article.
Redman is the man for the job It's time for a change of guard in Hotlanta. By all accounts it's time for the former University of Louisville star to get his shot. After Bobby experimenting badly with Joey and bryon what does he have to lose? Joey Harrington has been pulled 4 times this year and Byron Leftwich has appeared to be no closer to being the answer in Atlanta. Redman has all the makings to be a disney movie. Great person, great teammate and most importantly has lived life of a common man. He has the hunger to succeed because when you realize how life is outside the NFL you don't take anythng for granted the next time around. If you get a next time
Rant of the Day Big East Sec challenge What is this? What ESPN couldn't get the MEAC vs. Colonial Athletic Conference. Good try but that's what it is an attempt to make non conference matchups meaninful.

 Where's Dennis the Menace?
Maybe I'm missing something here but how do you go from heisman frontrunner to heisman back burner. This brings up the age old question can you win the heisman by default and lose by injury. Dennis Dixon was a player who by all accounts was on his way to holding that overrated over hyped mini bronze man. An ACL injury 9 and half games in does him in. How much of this award should go to the talking heads of ESPN and the sports information departments of the world? Tim Tebow by most people's ballot is the likely winner which would be history my friends. Remember Florida is 9-3 with him. A national championship team last year when he was a jump throwing fullback who came in to be a Doug Jones change up to Chris Leak's justin verlander fastball. Let's ask the real question does Tim tebow win the award by default or is he the best player in America?

Comments about the show
I have made my ammends with my Kentucky faithful. I appreciate the love on Catpause my friends. Why do the Marlins still have a ball team. Contraction needs to happen yesterday. Tim Tebow does not deserve the heisman. Tebow 9-3 no National Championship Chris Leak 12-1 National Champioshp Gators better without Tebow. Food for thought.

Former UL coach John L. Smith will come on to talk college football and the Heisman trophy. Trinity HS head coach Bob Beatty will be on. Additionally, we'll play Who AM I and give away a christmas gift.
I'm telling you. Even with all the sacks by the Baltimore D, the slashing (but at the same time POUNDING) running of Willis McGahee, the late defensive holding call, and the last ditch hail mary completed at the 2 yard line, THIS WAS THE BEST PART OF THE PATRIOTS-RAVENS GAME ON MONDAY NIGHT. Enjoy.

Here are the Top 10 things Kelvin Sampson is probably saying on this current phone conversation? 10. This is a nice shirt, at least I'm not wearing that ugly denim shirt with a red tie. 9. Hell, I'll sleep with Legion's mom to get him to IU. 8. Why did I ever want Joe Crawford's brother on my team? 7. Why does D.J. White always wear a tall tee during the game? 6. Eric Gordon hurt his ass bone...haha 5. De'Andre, I told you not to order more wings from Pizza Hut. 4. I wonder how badly we beat UK this weekend? 3. T
he Marlins got SIX prospects in one minor league system for TWO studs? ARe you kidding me? And the Tigers traded away their ENTIRE farm system for two guys THEY might sign? Who's the bigger idiot? Man .. AOL had two great stories. First, from the Washington Post, Joe Theisman is being paid 4 million dollars not to suck on ESPN and Second, their contest of worst announcer came to a close and the winner was Steven A. Smith (DAAAAAAAAAAAAWG). Wow! Shocker .. The Army All-American game has 14 notre dame kids in it. Is this a shock to anybody? Give me a break .. According to SI, Alex Legion may be coming back to UK. We'll see. And no Kige Ramsey did not report this from YouTube Sports .. Lastly I spoke to someone at the Winter Baseball Meetings and I can't wait to drop some stories tomorrow. Hank Steinbrennar is boasting about the call-out he did on A-Rod and duping people into thinking building a farm system was important. No so fast, fat boy. The Red Sox may be landing the biggest prize in a few days in Johan Santana. See you tomorrow. The Wake Up Zone, 7 Am to 10 AM

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
It was brought to my attention from a close friend of mine that I have achieved something that many people aspire to do but never achieve. I have made it on to Catpause (kentucky rivals)! It's time for rejoicement my friends. I consider catspause to be the quan, the ulitmate, the David Becham of message boards. It doesn't matter that most people on that board could care less for what I have to say but just putting me up there means the Wake up Zone has made it. I particularly like the altered picture of my physical appearance. I wish I had that much hair.
Topics that were discussed today:
Patriots- Ravens
That game showed me more about the will to win by the patriots then it did the will to find a way to lose by the Ravens.
Where has this effort been all year? 8-4 instead of 4-8
Tom Brady bar none best qb to play the game in my opinion, and yes this means all-time. No deficiencies in his game
Alex Legion of Doom
As John Denver once said "my bags are packed and ready to go, I'm leaving on a jet plane don't know when I will be back again" Have no idea if he sang that or not but just watched armageddon. Forgive me. By the way no way Bruce Willis lets Ben Affleck go back with his daughter while he stays back to eat an asteroid.
At what point do we take a step back and say what has Billy Glyde done. I realize it's too early and I shouldn't be that quick to judge but we live in a world of what have you done for me lately. That's the question that needs to be answered. Kentucky fans I hope I'm absolutely wrong about the future of your basketball program. I respect your program and your fans more than people give me credit for. Maybe we all need to take a step back an evaluate everything.
Stay tuned for a poem (yes a poem) and more blogging I think I might be enjoying this

DAVE's POEM
Twas the nightmare of the BCS and all through the land Not a college team was happy except for Tiger and Buckeye fan. All dreams were hung on a wing and a prayer In hopes that a playoff system would soon be there The alumni were excited and snug in their beds While visions of National Championships danced in their heads When out of everwhere there arose such a clamor Upsets last Saturday cause "perfect" system to shatter When what to my wondering eyes should appear But campuses in an uproar saying we should be here More rapid then Rome's Rants they pleaded their case As each university claimed their school's rightful place Not Oklahoma, not Kansas, Not Va. Tech nor USC Not West Virginia, not Georgia not Mizzou nor Hawaii To the top of the NCAA to the top of the BCS Who in Joe Pa's name created this insane football mess An idea so simple let's do it like Division II We'll have an eight team playoff with pollsters to choose The BCS brass spoke not a word and said it won't work It's all about the student athlete you ignorant jerk So up from their chairs the men of the BCS rose As they walked out of the meeting and turned up their nose It was no use as every fan would beg and plead It's all about Bowls about money about greed But I heard fan's exclaim before they left out of sight Happy Bowling to all and to all let's get this right Thank You,

1) How bout the Freak? Pulling in Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman with the scoop on Alex Legion. What a stud. Is there a question what the best radio show in the city is, in the afternoon? John Renshaw. Period. Legion leaving is not the last, folks. It is not the Brady Bunch at the UK Basketball facilities these days and Legion is just the first to bolt. According to a good friend, there are some ready to leave behind him. This is not a great start to his tenure. Say what you want about Legion, he was a valuable part of the future and oh yeah, he can play!
2) Can the Yankees really afford to let the Red Sox land Santana? I mean, damn.
3) Am I the only one that thought the Ravens-Patriots would be a fun game to watch? Seems no one even talked about the game prior. Say what you want about the Baltimore offense .. it's pathetic, no doubt .. the defense is still led by one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history (yes, I said it). Ray Lewis does not get shown up at home. It's 10 to 10 now.
4) Bill Simmons has a pretty funny column about the NFL network. Read it if you have a few minutes.
5) Tomorrow on the Wake Up Zone .. Tony Banks, former NFL vet, and Chip Cosby from the Lexington Herald-Leader. We'll get the pulse of Lexington, as we talk about Alex Legion's transfer. What it means to UK intraumural basketball (couch, cough) and the Billy Clyde reign. In my opinion, Billy G is making the Kragthorpe tenure look like a walk in the park.
That concludes the pre-game for the Wake Up Zone .. Listen 7 AM to 10 AM on THE ZoNe.
